What Graceland gives you, and what it leaves to you

Graceland gives you the online courses, faculty who supervise every practicum, contract coordinators who send the affiliation agreement, and a Graduate Practicums Coordinator who helps you search. The approvals, the Typhon listing and the approval email all come from Graceland.

Finding the preceptor is still your job. The School of Nursing and its students "collaborate to locate preceptors and practicum sites," and the handbook says you may need to start a year or more before your first practicum. That search is the part we carry. Our placement desk looks for preceptors who meet Graceland's rules for your track, check that the site suits the course, and give you everything Appendix A and Appendix B ask for, so the coordinators have what they need the first time.

Before you start

Does Graceland find preceptors for online NP students?

Graceland's handbook describes a shared model: you arrange your practicums with the School of Nursing's help, and the contract coordinators and lead faculty approve each preceptor and site. Graceland also offers an optional paid placement partner. Either way, you still file Graceland's paperwork on time.

When should I start looking for a Graceland preceptor?

Early. The handbook says students may need to start a year or more before their first practicum. The paperwork for each term is due June 15 for Fall, October 15 for Spring and February 15 for Summer, and a new site needs its affiliation agreement signed before you can count any hours there.

How many practicum hours does a Graceland NP track take?

Students who started in August 2023 or later complete 750 hours in every NP track: 225, 225 and 300 across three practicums, one per trimester. Students who started earlier have 600 hours (FNP) or 540 (AGACNP and PMHNP). The BSN-to-DNP adds 500 DNP practice hours.

Can a physician assistant be my Graceland preceptor?

No. Graceland does not accept physician assistants as preceptors for any practicum hours. Nurse practitioners with at least a master's degree and a year of experience qualify, and so do board-certified or board-eligible physicians. PMHNP practicums need a psychiatrist or a certified PMHNP.

Do you work with students outside Missouri and Iowa?

Yes. Graceland's online students are spread across the country, and our search follows you to your own town, provided your state is one where Graceland accepts students for NP practicums. Confirm your state with Graceland before you enroll or move, because its published licensure chart dates from June 2020.
